We Started With a Simple Question

Back in 2019, three accountants sat in a Sydney cafe arguing about balance sheets. Not the numbers themselves—everyone could read those—but what they actually meant.

That conversation grew into tavenquora. We realized financial statements weren't hard because of the maths. They were hard because nobody taught you how to think about them.

Built By People Who Actually Do This Work

Our team comes from audit firms, corporate finance departments, and small business accounting practices. We've all spent late nights puzzling over statements that didn't quite add up.

That experience matters. When you learn from us, you're learning from someone who's been exactly where you are—staring at a spreadsheet wondering what the depreciation policy really tells you about the business.

We don't teach theory in a vacuum. Every example comes from something we've seen, every technique is one we've actually used.

What Drives Our Approach

These aren't aspirational values we put on a wall. They're principles that shape how we build every course.

Real Context Always

Every financial statement tells a story about a business. We teach you to read that story, not just calculate ratios. Context turns numbers into decisions.

Show the Messy Bits

Real statements aren't neat. They have inconsistencies, judgment calls, and things that don't quite fit the textbook. We show you how to work with that reality.

Skill Over Certification

Certificates are fine, but we care more about whether you can actually analyze a statement when it matters. Our focus is building capability you'll use.

How We Got Here

Six years of figuring out what actually helps people understand financial statements.

2019

First Workshop Series

Ran monthly sessions at a co-working space in Sydney. Twelve people showed up to the first one. We learned more from their questions than they probably learned from us.

2021

Moved Online During Lockdown

Pandemic forced our hand. Turned out remote learning worked better than we expected—people could pause, replay tricky concepts, work at their own speed.

2023

Launched Comprehensive Program

Built our full curriculum based on three years of feedback. Added case studies from Australian companies, focused on practical application over theory.

2025

Expanded Team and Reach

Now working with mid-level professionals across Australia who need to level up their financial analysis skills. Still refining based on what students actually need.

Meet Someone From Our Team

We're a small group—seven people total. Everyone teaches, everyone's worked in finance, and everyone still does client work to stay current.

Our teaching philosophy is straightforward: if you can't explain why something matters, you probably shouldn't be teaching it.

That means we skip content that looks impressive but doesn't help in practice. We focus on what you'll actually use when you need to make sense of financial statements quickly.

Most of our students are accountants, finance managers, or business analysts who realize the gap between what they learned in university and what they need at work. They're competent professionals who just need someone to connect the dots differently.

Lead Instructor

Spent twelve years in corporate finance before switching to teaching. Still consults part-time because it keeps the material grounded in what actually happens in businesses.

What Makes Our Training Different

We don't teach financial statement analysis as a set of rules to memorize. We teach it as a thinking process—how to ask the right questions, where to look for answers, how to know when something deserves deeper investigation. That approach takes longer to teach, but it's what actually sticks and becomes useful.
